Autobiography

I graduated from the Royal Veterinary College in 2005 and worked in mixed practice (seeing mainly small animals and horses) until joining Parkvets in October 2007.

Being a vet is a unique and wonderful (although often challenging) experience. There aren’t many careers that allow you to combine exploring the ever changing world of medicine, with the capacity to spend time with some of the most loving creatures on the planet. It is fitting that my own pets inspired me to become a vet in the first place.

In fact I can’t remember a time when I didn’t want to be a vet. I grew up watching All Creatures Great and Small and was surrounded by animals. My grandparents had a farm, my grandfather was a cattle auctioneer and we had many pets at home so I suppose it was inevitable really.

Being a veterinary GP presents a varied challenge and am very excited to work at a practice that is not only keen to practice the very best medicine but to be working amongst some of the most enthusiastic and knowledgeable colleagues I have known.

But beyond the medicine lies one of my real passions, the special relationship that forms between pets and their owners. Understanding this bond is an essential skill for vets in this modern era, and sitting on a government advisory panel discussing animal welfare and undertaking further studies in animal behaviour has helped me to develop a new perspective on my work.

In my spare time (a rareity for a vet), I can be found on the ski slopes, riding horses or relaxing with a cup of tea and my cat (Hinge) on my knee.

I look forward to meeting you and your pet at our Eltham clinic where you can expect a warm welcome to the world of pet health care - the Parkvets way.
