A brief summary of the role of our weekend vet position based at our Footscray hospital
Job Title: Hospital Veterinary Surgeon (Weekend Position)
Location: Based at Footscray Hospital
Reports to: Veterinary Manager
Purpose of Job
To contribute to the overall success of the Practice by providing first opinion veterinary services at branch surgery and Footscray hospital.
Key Duties
- Handle a substantial 1st opinion caseload personally, investigating and diagnosing animal diseases and injuries, providing medical and surgical treatment, dispensing pharmaceutical medicines, giving advice to owners.
- Promote good animal welfare and preventative medicine in accordance with practice protocols.
- During weekend shifts brief staff, answer their queries and deal with their complaints, delegating work appropriately.
- Promote and represent the Practice on site and in the local community. Encourage and contribute to the professional development of the team.
- Assist in the training, development and supervision of all members of the team.
- Support practice initiatives and follow policy at all times.
- Undertake specialist responsibilities and any other reasonable duties which may be assigned from time to time.
Specialist Skills Required
- Veterinary clinical and surgical skills.
- Basic computer skills
- Valid UK Drivers License
Personal Skills Required
- Leadership skills to motivate staff in the team.
- Business skills and the ability to communicate well with staff.
- Ability to assimilate and analyse information, paying great attention to detail.
- Ability to explain veterinary matters to clients clearly and simply.
- Ability to work alone and as part of a team as required.
- Ability to work under pressure and to deadlines, planning time and priorities.
- Polite and persuasive with good presentation skills.
- Caring and understanding attitude.
- Good communication skills - verbal, written and listening.
- Willingness to work unsocial hours.
Qualifications/education Required
- Experienced Veterinary Surgeon MRCVS.
- Continuing professional and skills development.
