A Vet's Role and Responsibilities Overview
The Parkvets group is centered on a 6000 square foot hospital that is staffed 24-hours all year round to allow the treatment for pets committed to our care.
The hospital is well equipped to handle a diverse surgical and medical caseload with facilities including:
- In-house laboratory
- 700mA 120kV x-ray unit
- Colour flow doppler ultrasound
- Gastroscope
- Bronchoscope
- MRI
- Full surgical kits AO/ASIF/TPLO
- Dedicated clean and "dirty" theatres
Parkvets staff includes a diploma holder who undertakes referrals in imaging, orthopaedics and spinal cases from neighbouring practices. There are a further three certificate holders in radiology, diagnostic imaging and behaviour. Non-certified areas of special interest within the group include ophthalmology, medicine, dentistry and dermatology. Parkvets surgeons can cater for almost all surgical cases.
The satellite clinics are equipped to allow minor surgery to be undertaken, many are equipped with vet-test machines and microscopes.
Every veterinary surgeon is encouraged to follow through their own cases and any case requiring further investigation from our branch clinics is transported to the main hospital by veterinary ambulance. The primary clinician then travels to the hospital to follow up the case. Support and advice is always available from experienced colleagues who are on hand to give help if required.
Excellent support staff with many qualified nurses means that we have a friendly team spirit that allows us to enjoy providing a very high level of care for our patients.
Our current on-call rota involves 1 weekend in 12 on duty and 1 weekday night in 3 weeks. In addition we have two full time weekend vets and locums who further support the team, allowing flexible holiday arrangements and reduced stress on call!
Parkvets gives five weeks paid annual leave and £1000 CPD per year. A generous performance related pay scheme plus car/housing allowance is also paid.
