Biography

With a mother as a teacher Charlotte looked destined for a career working with children but luckily for Parkvets she came to her senses and decided animals were a better choice.

Says Charlotte, "I've always had a love for animals. From a young age our house and garden have been filled with an array of animals from cats, rabbits, rats and hamsters, to shetland ponies and even a donkey! With such a menagerie of pets, I have of course been through the highs and the lows of pet ownership, and I feel this has given me a great wealth of experience and empathy for what it means to be an owner."

Having decided on a career with animals, Charlotte joined Parkvets as a kennel assistant. "Parkvets supported me throughout my learning and I later qualified as a fully trained veterinary nurse from Myerscough College, Preston in 2008. I am very proud that I can honestly say I have worked my way from the bottom to the top."

Charlotte is passionate about patient care and comments, "People have a misconception about veterinary nursing, it is not all about playing with our fluffy friends! Just like in human nursing our job entails, rigorous standards of hygiene, dedicated attention to all our patients and their needs and assisting the veterinary surgeons with numerous procedures both surgical and medical.  My special interests are high quality anaesthesia and taking the perfect x-ray."

At home Charlotte currently has one pet - Oscar-Rodney - a tabby cat that had been abandoned on the door step. "I can safely say he is now a very spoilt little man, and my love for him only waivers when he feels the need to attack my feet in the middle of the night."

Charlotte's time at Parkvets has been rewarding on personal level too.  She met her partner here and they are due to marry next May.

Says Charlotte, "I find the veterinary profession very rewarding, there is nothing more satisfying than seeing an animal that was critcally ill finally wagging its tail and going home, and knowing that I was part of that."
