Biography

Born and bred in Malaysia, Ming was always surrounded by animals – geese, tortoises, dogs, chickens(her dad even built an incubator for eggs that a hen laid but then she passed away!) and fish. She always wanted to be a singer or a marine biologist until the age of 16. In A levels however, She realized that being a vet would be better as you get to treat all different sorts of animals not just marine ones! She’s never looked back since.

Coming over to the UK to study in the Royal Veterinary College was a huge step away from her comfort zone. Being away from friends and family (and the food!) back home was tough but when the going gets tough, the tough gets going. She’s made lots of friends in the UK and graduated from the Royal Veterinary College in 2008.

She volunteered in the Mayhew Animal Home in North West of London for a few months honing on her surgical skills before settling into private practice in London for a year. She soon moved on as she was finding cases being referred often due to the lack of equipment and expertise. Kathryn, who was her uni mate in the RVC, now a vet in the Swanley branch spoke of a vacancy in Parkvets and Ming jumped at the chance as Kathryn always talked about the level of care and expertise that Parkvets built its name on.

“Communication is probably the most important aspect about being a vet”– says Ming. Having the skills/expertise to be able to help your pet is one thing but if cannot communicate it to the owner, you cannot help them. There is not always one answer to each individual case and this is where communication is important. To put forward all the different ways of treatment/diagnostics to help you move forward towards the common goal, that is to help your pet have a good quality of life.

Ming enjoys all other aspects of life including singing, snowboarding, surfing, basketball and hiking. At the moment she’s discovered cycling as well (It’s Kent after all!) and is keen on exploring the countryside on 2 wheels!
