Acer's Amazing Transformation

A dog's account of how having his teeth sorted made life better!

Hi my name is Acer and as you can see my breed is a German Shepherd Dog, good looking eh! I used a younger photo, it's a trick I learnt from my owners - they have their uses.

I had a problem recently. Didn't fancy going out for walks, couldn't be bothered, started hiding in corners and found I was sleeping more than usual too (well I'm nearly twelve years old). I kept overhearing the dreaded words "Well it's her age what do you expect that's what they do when they are getting on a bit".

Then the postman delivered a reminder for my annual check up and vaccination, this proved to be a blessing in disguise. The friendly vet discovered some very dubious looking teeth, "they will need to come out!" he said.

Well I did wonder why visitors and my owner didn't like me breathing all over them - phew, now I know.

Arrangements were made and seven teeth were extracted. Within a few days I was acting like a puppy going out for walks like I had a new lease of life. The owners have a job keeping up with me 'it's their age'! Mind you they are now doing a good job brushing my remaining teeth, lovely tasting toothpaste, yummy, a very nice nurse showed them how it should be done.

So who said you can't teach old owners new trick?

A message from Acers owners, we wish we had started brushing Acer's teeth as part of her puppy training but it's never too late to start.

Our thanks to the vets and staff at Parkvets for looking after Acer.
