Back to Pet Passports
You've all had a great holiday but now its time to come home. Aside from having your passport there are two other things to remember:
- Your pet must enter the UK from a listed country travelling with an approved transport company on an authorised route.

Your pet must be treated against ticks and tapeworms using licensed products administered by a suitably qualified person.
Routes and Carriers
Details of appropriate travel routes and contact details of approved carriers can be found on the DEFRA website.
Tick and Tapeworm Treatment
This must be done not less than 24 hours and not more than 48 hours before it is checked in with an approved transport company for its journey into the UK.
The treatment must be administered by a qualified vet with a suitably licensed product (our recommendations can be found on this page (link to keeping your pet safe page). It is essential that your passport is completed and signed/stamped by a vet in the appropriate sections.

Passport Control
Before boarding the ferry, train or plane to return home the carrier company will be responsible for:
- Checking the identity of your pet by scanning with a microchip reader
- Checking that the Passport is valid and shows conclusively that your pet has successfully been vaccinated for rabies
- Checking that treatment for parasites has been carried out.
If you do not have the correct documentation and your pet has not received treatment for parasites and ticks within the stated time frame then your pet will not be allowed back in the UK without going into quarantine. So make sure everything is OK.
