Postop Rabbit Care
Your rabbit has had a surgical procedure performed under general anaesthetic. Please read and follow the advice below to ensure your pet makes a swift recovery. If you are concerned about any aspect of your pet's health following its operation then please contact the surgery. Our out-of-hours emergency number is 02083008111
1. Your pet may appear drowsy, this is because of the anaesthetic and should wear off during the next 24-48 hours. Your pet will also have had painkillers to keep it comfortable post-operatively.
2. It is essential that your bunny eats and drinks this evening so provide it with plenty of greens, hay and his usual rabbit mix.
3. Hair has been clipped around the operation site. This will grow back in 4 to 6 weeks.
4. Do not allow your rabbit to lick the wound. If you have difficulty preventing this, please contact the clinic for advice.
5. Some swelling and redness will be seen at the operation site. If marked bleeding, oozing or swelling occurs contact the clinic for advice.
6. If your rabbit is not eating, not passing droppings or you have any concerns after your rabbits's operation please contact the clinic.
Stitch Removal
If stitches are present, they are normally removed 10 days following the operation. Please make an appointment at your clinic to have this done.
