Pre-Admission Instructions for Your Pet
If your pet is scheduled to have and operation under sedation or anaesthetic then please follow these instructions.
Whilst no procedure on anaesthetic can be guaranteed as safe, if you follow these instructions your pet's admission/procedure will run as smoothly and safely as possible.
- If your pet seems unwell or its condition has deteriorated please inform us at the time of admission.
- Do not feed your pet for 12 hours prior to admission. (This does not apply to rabbits)
- Provide water to drink overnight unless you have been specifically asked not to. This is especially important for animals over the age of eight.
- If your pet is a cat, please ensure it is kept indoors overnight (with a litter tray) to prevent it from getting access to food outside.
- If your pet is being admitted at the Footscray hospital then you must make an admission appointment by calling 02083008111.
- If your pet is being admitted at a branch surgery then patients are normally admitted between 8.30am and 9.30am, please allow 15 minutes for the admission procedure when you arrive.
- If your pet is insured then please bring a signed claim form and a copy of your pet's policy document. If your pet is not insured then a deposit of 1/3 the estimated cost will be payable on admission. Please bring means of payment on the day to avoid delaying your pet's treatment. We accept most debit/credit cards, cheques or cash.
We will make every effort to call you with an update when your pet has finished its procedure. If however you have not heard from us by 3 pm please ring us on 02083008111 for an update.
