Pre-Admission Instructions for Rabbit Owners

If your pet is scheduled to have and operation under sedation or anaesthetic then please follow these instructions.

Whilst no procedure on anaesthetic can be guaranteed as safe, if you follow these instructions your pet's admission/procedure will run as smoothly and safely as possible.

  1. If your pet seems unwell or its condition has deteriorated please inform us at the time of admission.
  2. It is vital that rabbits do not stop eating before a procedure so please ensure your rabbit has access to its normal food.
  3. Provide water to drink overnight unless you have been specifically asked not to.
  4. If your pet is being admitted at the Footscray hospital then you must make an admission appointment by calling 02083008111.
  5. If your pet is being admitted at a branch surgery then patients are normally admitted between 8.30am and 9.30am, please allow 15 minutes for the admission procedure when you arrive.
  6. If your rabbit is insured then please bring a signed claim form and a copy of your pet's policy document. If your pet is not insured then a deposit of 1/3 the estimated cost will be payable on admission. Please bring means of payment on the day to avoid delaying your pet's treatment. We accept most debit/credit cards, cheques or cash.

We will make every effort to call you with an update when your pet has finished its procedure. If however you have not heard from us by 3 pm please ring us on 02083008111 for an update.

It is not unusual for rabbits to remain in the hospital overnight following its operation so don't be alarmed if your vet suggests this. At Parkvets we will not send a pet home until it is safe to do so.
