Harry's 'earring Problem

By Graham Peck, Originally published on July 2003

Young Harry

This article was originally published in July 2003 and proved to be one of the most popular on the site. Sadly, Harry passed on Last month (Aug 2007). We are republishing the article, with a moving tribute from his Family in a tribute to him. [Ed].

Harry, a four month old cocker spaniel pup and already no stranger to Parkvets was back again recently.

While being cuddled in the arms of his owner's mother Harry just couldn't resist that shiny bauble dangling from the lady's ear. The earring was grabbed and swallowed in a before anyone could realise what was happening.

Harry's Xray

The distraught lady rushed Harry down to Parkvets hospital concerned that the relatively large earring with an open clasp might cause some major problem. A quick x-ray confirmed that Harry had indeed swallowed the piece and it was now lodged in his stomach.

A quick general anaesthetic and a tour Harry's of stomach with the practice endoscope resulted in the retrieval of the earring. A quick wash and it was returned to its rightful owner.

Within minutes of recovering Harry was in fine voice and it was with some relief we sent him home.

A Fitting Tribute

Sadly Harry has now passed on. The following is a tribute to him from his loving owner Jo and his family.

"Shortly after this article, Harry's health began to be an issue as he suffered from epilepsy but despite all his 'troubles' his love continued to shine through.

Words cannot express what Harry meant to us, he was not just a dog - he was our world.

Sadly, we lost 'our 'Arry' on the 24th August, aged just four, but we do have his Big Bruv Max, who thankfully is in better health.

Young Harry

We thank all staff at Parkvets, in particular Kirsty for all their efforts and compassion. And a special thanks to Dave Nicol, who allowed us to post this tribute to our little mate.

Are we all going to miss Harry - you bet your life we are."
